I still can’t really remember where I got the idea from (I guess i’ll update this if it ever comes back to me) but as I’ve mentioned before, I try to pick a party theme that is easy enough for those who don’t want to dress up can still participate in. I also make up for the theme by going all out with decorations.
So I found some cheap UV lights, did some glow in the dark party research and my vision started growing…
I found a recipe for glow in the dark gin & tonic. Tonic water has an ingredient called quinine hydrochloride which actually makes it glow in the dark. I also used tonic for my glow in the dark coconut rum jello shots. To pimp out my house I bought fluro tape from the same store that I got the lights from and waited until the day of to lay down cool lines and geometric shapes along the floor and in furniture. When the lights were off and the tape was glowing, it gave off an effect like the patterns were floating through the air. I opted for KKs instead of a cake that year and got glow in the dark candles to go along with the theme. In the empty spaces I had glow in the dark balloons and glow sticks scattered about.
I did wear white but to make this birthday gal stand out, I got some glow in the dark face paint and my sister painted lines and patterns that matched the rest of the house on my body and face. And since we were worried about peeople stepping on my dogs in the dark, we bought HiVi’s vests and cut them up to fit them so they were just walking balls of fluro green!!
The DJ had some cool multicoloured lighting in the back which matched the whole vibe so it was a pretty successfull theme. The UV lights were too good to not use again so I had to now think of way to incorporate them in the following years party…
Or finally chuck a halloween party!
