So this was a rare chilled out birthday party of mine. No DJ, no dancing or anything raging.
I decided to have a boho/hippie kind of theme.
(this was also the first year I made special brownies at my party and this too has now become a sort of tradition of mine)
I laid out three long tables across the living room and elevated them about 30cm off the floor. I put beam bags and cushions all around for people to chill out and filled the table with all sorts of cheeses, meats and sweets. Now my mistake was having these special brownies out on the table amongst the rest of the snacks. I also made the brownies way too extremely strong and had to cut up the brownie’s into bite size pieces. Now I don’t know how many people have ever had a bite size brownie before and stopped because they felt satisfied but it was definitely my bad assuming that although I had advertised them to be quite strong, people can’t help themselves wanting to have more. There were other sweets like donuts and cupcakes on the tables but everyone knows, there’s just nothing like a brownie. I realised that next time I should just have a plate of normal brownies out and for those who wanted the space cadet effects could just ask for one personally.
NOW I knew how strong these brownies were as I tested out HALF of one and felt the effects pretty quickly, so I only had an extra one after that and got ROCKED. My guests on the other hand…
Let’s just say this – The meat I bought to be BBQ’d never even got cooked. The BBQ itself never even got turned on. The delicious cake my friend made not only didn’t get consumed as all but we didn’t even sing Happy Birthday nor cut the cake. The giant glass dispenser filled with Canadian Club and ginger ale never got drunk and for the first time ever, I believe people were too high to even have the munchies and finish off the snacks at the table. Some people spaced out right on the beam bags and time literally fleeted away from their reality. Others never quite made it back to Earth and passed out right there on the floor, myself included. I woke up and discovered that the party had ended, some people had either left and the rest were evidently snoozing before me.
After a couple years and making the brownies again for following birthday parties, I had discovered why these brownies were the gateway to the blackhole. When making the special butter, I discreet a certain amount of the plant into a certain amount of butter. When I make my special brownies, I require only 1/4 of the butter produced. The year of my boho/hippie party, I had added all 4 quarters of the butter into the mix…
SO lesson unfortunately learnt and I know can cut up the brownies into normal sized pieces without overdosing my guests. I can also make multiple batches with how much butter I have so for those who need a bigger hit, can always come back for seconds. It wasn’t all bad though. I now have a funny story as well as those from each of my guest’s experiences as to the journey that we had each gone on and that night shall never be forgotten.
When I woke up the next day trying to recollect my memories from the night before, I straight away went to cut myself a slice of bday cake. And I think I smashed half of the cake to myself on that very day.
Good times…
