Matrix Party

SO this idea just kind of made itself happen. First off, the new Matrix resurrections film had come out and everyone was buzzing about Martrix again. Also after two years of lockdowns and the people Vs the powers that be, the whole Matrix and red pill/blue pill theory was trending. PLUS what an excellent reason to whip out my UV lights again… I knew they would be a great investment…

Similarly to the UV Party, I got a crap tonne of fluro green tape from the entertainment store and taped random numbers and “hieroglyphic” shapes/symbols down the walls and taped 0’s & 1’s along the floors like the coding in the films.

Now as I say with picking themes, you want something everyone can participate in. I got everyone to think black, leather, funky shades and wack 90’s hairstyles. Funnily enough I celebrated my birthday that year in May (it was just the only time I could do it okay!) and being as it was Winter, the whole trench coat theme worked out perfectly!

Now I had a vision for the cake design but I couldn’t get it across and the person I wanted to make it, isn’t into using fondant. So I figured if I want it to come out how I picture it in my head, I’ll just have to make it myself. Mind you I didn’t care too much to how it tasted, I made it from scratch and in a rush. The whole point was to just have a Matrix themed cake so on the side I made a Reece’s peanut butter banana bread cake for people to enjoy as this was my first time working with fondant and I needed to be able to destroy this thing for the aesthetics. And yes that cake tasted bomb.
So as the Matrix theme is black background and green coding (like my house), I wanted to flip it for the cake and do a green base with black coding. Then in the middle of the coding, have in white fondant “HBD SHAKS” or something. I did this on the day only a couple hours before the party and boy was it a fiddly mission. But it got done and it was exactly how I envisioned it, so I was a very happy Shaks indeed.

I made my coconut rum jell-o shots again but this time only red and blue colours to go with the whole blue pill/red pill idea and as you should expect, the red shots were all consumed first! Not sure if it was based on “the choice”, the flavour of jell-o or pure coincidence but I was all for it!

As for my costume, I wanted to go on theme of course but everyone dressing in dark colours in dark rooms, how was I supposed to stand out? The birthday person/host should always stand out i feel. So I found (yet again amongst the old dance costumes we fail to depart from) a fluro green top to go under my faux leather unsymmetrical trench coat to help me glow in the crowd and also match my house.

So another year to celebrate, another successful party theme and already excited for the next…
