I didn’t know I was meditating

I started practicing yoga around mid 2017 and sort of fell in love straight away. I didn’t know there were different styles, intentions for practice and that you didn’t really need to be an expert but just to do what you could and that would be enough. I just listened to the instructor, did what she told me to do and it suited me quite well. Now after doing it for a few years, I kind of have my preferences and sometimes even opt for just doing my own thing as apposed to committing to someone’s class but something I only just recently discovered after all this time was that I was actually meditating. Training my mind and “aligning my chakras” if you will, without even noticing. Like I said, I kind of just did what I was told and without even realising it, I was strengthening my mind, improving my mood and growing.

Looking back, it all sort of makes sense. I started yoga around the time when I had my huge epiphany and consciously disconnected from negative energy. “The day that changed my life” as I call it. And all this time I gave myself great credit to coming to that stand point all on my own but now to think I was probably guided there in someway. My subconscious took control and my new energy attracted other likeness energy. I guess at the end of the day its still me making the decision but just something I can’t help think about…

When I moved overseas and started a new skill, I never really got back into that routine of regular practice. It wasn’t until the first Covid lockdown when I no longer had the pleasure of training in my new skill that I temporarily cast it away and went back to yoga but still that was more of a physical practice. Did a bit of Wimhof breathing methods which is a form of meditation in itself (again, didn’t realise it then, only from looking back now). But all in all, I still had years of attention practice, breathing techniques, shavasanas, etc.

A full trip around the sun, back on home soil and in my second Covid lockdown, I started discovering more and more about the consciousness, being aware and strengthening the mind-to-body connection. So as I do more research, begin to understand and start practicing, I realise that this is all the same kind of stuff I was doing anyway. And no wonder I felt a positive shift in my atmosphere, like things in my life were aligning and like nothing could phase me!! Life isn’t perfect (which is perfect) but I have also never felt so content and grateful and on track as I do right now, and more and more so as each day passes.

Maybe I’m wrong and that just comes with age or with more conscious decisions? Or maybe the mind strengthening over the years has attracted all these things and being optimal really does matter and affects the energy you attract. Call me a hippie, call me spiritual or whatever but I do feel the difference and I feel like checking in with yourself, switching off your brain and disconnecting from things you know are negative will impact the way you navigate through life. So meditate if you can, I highly recommend…

Or shortcut and experience a form of psychedelics. That always helps too.
