Nostalgia from the radio

So I love to drive. I enjoy cruising around especially on a warm sunny day with the windows down. Or even a late night through heavily lit streets that make me feel like im in a video game. Most of the time I am driving, I have a podcast of some sort or my music playing in the background. But every once in a while, I chuck on the radio. Not because of radio shows or news stations or anything like that. Quite frankly I absolutely had advertisements of any sort and any “news” that I’m getting from a source I didn’t seek out (which let’s face it, to me sounds like a version of advertising anyway)…

On occasion I like to flick through the stations and hear the different genres of music playing until I settle one. I listen and vibe out or sing along to whatever is playing until the song ends or its time for a new feel. Again, I flick through station by station, hearing the little glimpses of tunes taking me through different moods second by second until I settle in on the next one.

There’s something so nostalgic about doing this that I kind of enjoy. It brings me back to before Carplay or before it was just normal to have access to every song you could want to listen to or any playlist crafted for your mood you’re in. And sure, as a music lover I am completely grateful to have every album I’ve ever loved or the library of any artist I desire in my back pocket but the flicking of the stations changes things. I discover new music that I probably wouldn’t have come across any other way or I get a second hit of nostalgia when a song from the past that I would have otherwise never added to my music library hits me with flow of memories or emotions.

As lucky as we are to have everything at the tip of our fingers and as quick as a touch, I can still appreciate the insignificant but sentimental act of just flicking through the stations and being taken on a ride.

Anyway, just over here stopping to smell the roses…

Hope you are too.
