Blast from my past… I was so into this tv series. But the one thing I always appreciated and would have to be my favourite aspect of the show, is the soundtrack. They incorporated so much talent and music in this teen drama! They somehow turned a high school to young adulthood story of friends, relationships and the occasional psychopath story into one that displays some of the greatest music and art of all genres and ages. This show helped me learn that I had an interest in envisioning what sounds can set a scene. I, until this very day have a playlist on Apple Music called ‘film’ dedicated to any song I hear and can immediately picture an on screen setting to go along with it.
If you haven’t watched the show, to sum it up, it goes something like record store, singing in a diner, record label, getting record deals, nightclub, touring on the road and a tonne of guest artists performing on the show. And on top of that, whoever was in charge of the soundtrack has some spectacular taste in music. Some of my favourite songs by my favourite artists, as well as some great cameos have all been featured throughout the series. I’ve raved on about my first love quite a bit on here but the one thing anyone learns quickly from my taste in sounds is I love just about every genre from about just any timeline. You press shuffle on my phone and boy will your eardrums be in for a rollercoaster of a ride.
So to whomever was in the process of all those musical decisions throughout the show, thank you. I really appreciated it.
And in case you were wondering, no the show actually wasn’t just about teen drama and music. There was soooo much happening. Basketball, fashion, psychopaths, and some top notch film references for all the movie buffs. This was just something I got to enjoy along the way.
